Educational problem in HK

There will be a final year of HKALE and 334-system left in HK educational system in 2012. As a HK student, I have some opinion on the changes of the educational system.

First of all, reducing amount of exams may be good for students because they need to study for one exam only. Reducing the amount of exam seems to make students more relaxed. However, I don’t think so. The students may feel more stressed instead because they have to study all stuff in textbooks at the same time. Also, the contents of their examination are equal to that in F.5, 6, 7. I think it would be a burden for the students. Also, the exam seems to decide their future. Hence, students may experience great stress. The students in 334-system have less public exams. They would not have so much experience in having public exam. When they take the public exam, they may feel nervous and fail in the exam. In contrast, as students have taken once public exam (HKCEE), they may be able to handle the stress in HKALE. Also, all students will take the public exam, so the competition will also be greater.

In addition, students need to join activities to increase the chance to enter universities. I think it is hard for students to handle both sides of academic and activity in a limited time period. The activities may make their academic results become bad because the study hours are long and less time is left for them to study. When they join some activities at the same time, it may not help their academic results.

Finally, I think small class teaching can be good for students although schools need more human resources. Teachers can pay more attention to particular group of students. They can deal with their difficulties in studying or behavior easier as teachers have a longer time to get along with them. They can understand or realize students’ needs more. Also, schools aim at teaching students. When teachers teach some students particularly, I think teachers can provide suitable teaching modes for students. It can help students learn more effectively.

end of sem 2

Time flies. It’s time to have exams. I enjoy having the lessons of Introduction to Japanese Studies. I think the teachers are great. I think this is the most relaxed lessons to me this year. I feel happy to learn Japanese and Japanese culture.
I learnt many things in these lessons. This is the first time for me to type English or Japanese on my blog. I learnt how to read comics and I found so much fun from it. I learnt many pronunciations about “me” in Japanese. Also, the websites Seo sensei introduced are so useful although I don’t have so much time to try all of them. It really motivates me to learn Japanese and the culture. I am looking forward to having the lessons on Japanese culture in the following year.

Learning from presentations

Group 日本人に結婚の観念
This is my group presentation. I enjoy the presentation because I can feel free to present our project. The atmosphere is not so strict so that I can be relaxed and feel without stress. =)
From the findings, I found that most of the Japanese want to get married, but I think we can ask the reasons for marriage. Is it as same as the Chinese, for the birth of next generation? Are there other reasons? For Q.5, I would prefer the answer is 20-30, but the outcome is 20-30 and also 30-40. I think it may be due to imbalance of gender population.
I found that the situations in HK and Japan are similar, especially for the Double Incomes No Child. However, there should be various reasons. If there is further study, I would like to find out the reasons for this similarity. =)
There is technical problem. If it can be solved, I believe that the presentation can also be better!

Group 5  日本人の生活について
I think this group like 小丸子 very much because they capture so many photos from this drama or animation. The PowerPoint is so beautiful and attractive. There are interesting pictures as signs. Also, they can realize the details in the scenes of the Japanese dramas. Their observation is good as they can discover the miso soup appearing in the animation. It is so amazing. The cooperation is good.
I understand that it is inconvenient to cook it if there is only one person. But I still like drinking miso soup since it is delicious.
I discover that the living style of the Japanese tends to become Western. They may not like sitting on tatami because they think it is uncomfortable. However, I desire to sit on tatami very much… I have not tried to sit on it yet. I hope I have this chance.
There are comparisons in the presentation. I can see that there are some differences between the thoughts of people from two different countries.
I discover that most of the Japanese go to onsen and shrine once a year. However, I think it should be normal because they can go there every year. Therefore, they may not go there in regular time period.
Overall, it is good but I think the symbols of Q.2 and 8 can be more obvious to know what the question is about. Eg. For Q.2, they can make a Western dish, such as steak because I think it seems like dinner although it is a Western dish. For Q.8, they can make a flower there.
Group 6 旅行について
I can understand more on the views on travelling of the Japanese. I discovered that most of the Japanese would like to travel within 4 days. Only a few of them spend a whole week for travel. From their expenditure of travelling, it can also be estimated that they would not travel for a long time period.
I think the points in PowerPoint are clear. I can know what they are talking about. However, if they can add a bit explanation after the point can help to catch up the points. I think the questions and findings are interesting even the questions seem like a bit simple.
On the other hand, I heard that even the Japanese, they may not travel the whole Japan. So, I have a dream that is to travel the whole Japan. I hope that it can become true. =) I would also like to travel inside Japan since I like appreciating the nature. I think the nature in Japan is marvelous. If I travel overseas, I would like to go to South Pole and North Pole.

Learn from presentations

Group 1
Native Japanese has negative views on development of culture and industry of Japanese animations and comics. It shows a difference between the thoughts of HK people and native Japanese. The expected answers is “no” since the people like reading Japanese animations and comics. Hence, they may not realize the potential negative effects in development process.
Also, the expected answer on buying figures of animations is “yes”. The reason may be that HK teenagers usually see the part of the truth and hence enlarge the seriousness. In other words, we heard some professional nouns, such as otaku. They focus on these people so that they think the Japanese are most likely to buy the figures. However, they do not be aware that otaku is just a part of the Japanese, but not all the Japanese.

Group 2,
I found that more Japanese interviewees do not know about the policy/law. I would like to know the reasons. Is it related to the openness of policy? Or the public does not concern about the policy so much?
I think There are many pictures in the PowerPoint. I think they can add a few words beside the pictures. Also, they can introduce the policy a bit at the beginning. =)

Group 3
Jackie Chan is the first impression of HK for the Japanese. Through this, I think they may also watch Jackie Chan’s movies. It is an interesting finding. If I am Japanese, I think Chinese restaurants are my impression because I like eating. =)
Also, the comments about HK from the Japanese are very positive. It is amazing that the expectations are similar to the result in most of the questions.

Overall
I think using PowerPoint and providing the flow of presentation are useful to help audience understand content of presentation. Some nouns which are not well-known can be introduced at the beginning of presentation for audience to understand. Comparisons can show the differences of thoughts between Japanese and HK people effectively.

By feeling, it is a bit rude for boys to use ore, but not rude for those who use boku.
After doing this project, I learnt how to read comics...XD although I have read comics for 1-2 times...
Reading Japanese comics is a bit time consuming. However, I felt happy and enjoyed reading them. The comics are also nice. Also, I can some Japanese at the same time.
I like using watashi because I think it is common for people to use it. Atashi is specific for girls and males cannot use it. I don’t like to be so special.
